General Manager Sales & Marketing – Exports | Sri Lankan Conglomerate

Role Overview Our client, a prestigious and well-established conglomerate in Sri Lanka with a diverse portfolio in manufacturing, trading, and distribution, is seeking a visionary General Manager – International Sales & Marketing (Exports). This is a high-impact leadership role designed for a results-driven strategist capable of steering the company’s global export operations. You will be responsible for defining the international roadmap, penetrating new geographic markets, and ensuring that the organization’s commitment to quality and operational excellence translates into sustainable global growth and profitability.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Market Expansion

  • Global Strategy: Develop and execute high-level business strategies to expand the export footprint and drive aggressive international growth.

  • Market Positioning: Increase global market share by identifying emerging trends and strengthening the brand’s competitive positioning in key territories.

  • Relationship Management: Build and nurture robust, long-term partnerships with international buyers, key accounts, and global distribution networks.

Operational & Financial Excellence

  • Performance Oversight: Direct all export operations to ensure maximum efficiency, from production coordination to timely international order fulfillment.

  • Compliance & Quality: Guarantee total adherence to international quality standards, food safety protocols, and evolving global export regulations.

  • Financial Stewardship: Manage the department’s P&L, focusing on revenue acceleration, rigorous cost control, and maximizing return on investment (ROI).

  • Budgetary Control: Monitor global budgets and financial metrics to ensure the long-term profitability of the export division.

Brand Advocacy & Leadership

  • International Representation: Act as the face of the organization at major international trade fairs, global industry events, and high-level networking forums.

  • Executive Leadership: Provide strategic direction to the export team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.

    • An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is highly preferred.

  • Experience: * 10–15 years of progressive experience in business management.

    • Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role within the export sector.

    • Specialized experience in the Tea export industry or FMCG export sector is an advantage.

  • Technical Mastery:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of international trade procedures, logistics, and global customer management.

    • Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance within international markets.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Strategic Vision: Proven ability to drive revenue growth and manage complex business performance metrics.

    • Negotiation: Exceptional skills in high-stakes international contract negotiations.

    • Communication: Sophisticated interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across diverse cultures.
