Mainframe Networking Specialist | Cloud & Infrastructure Services

Role Overview

As a Mainframe Networking Specialist within the Cloud & Infrastructure Services line, you will be responsible for the architecture, implementation, and management of mission-critical communication frameworks. This role requires a deep understanding of how legacy and modern protocols intersect within the IBM zEnterprise environment. You will ensure that mainframe connectivity is not only highly available but also secured against modern threats using advanced encryption and intrusion detection technologies.

Key Accountabilities

Network Architecture & Implementation

Connectivity Design: Participate in the design and deployment of highly available and secure mainframe networking solutions, ensuring seamless integration with data center capabilities.
Hardware Integration: Apply extensive knowledge of IBM zEnterprise server hardware to optimize physical and logical networking paths.
Systems Programming: Execute network systems programming to align mainframe communications with broader enterprise infrastructure requirements.

z/OS Communication Server Management

Core Protocols: Provide expert technical support for z/OS Communication Server components, including TCP/IP and VTAM (Virtual Telecommunications Access Method).
Protocol Mastery: Leverage an in-depth working knowledge of TCP, UDP, and ICMP communications to manage data flow and system behavior.

Security & Encryption

Defensive Solutions: Implement and support specialized mainframe security solutions, including z/OS IDS (Intrusion Detection Services).
Secure Connectivity: Configure and manage AT-TLS (Application Transparent Transport Layer Security) and IPsec VPNs to protect data in transit.
Compliance: Ensure all networking solutions meet stringent enterprise security standards and regulatory requirements.

Troubleshooting & Optimization

Problem Determination: Act as the lead for resolving complex network connectivity, encryption failures, and data transmission issues.
High Availability: Work across cross-functional technical teams to ensure 24/7 connectivity and system compatibility.

Technical & Professional Requirements

Core Skills: * Mastery of VTAM and TCP/IP on z/OS.
- Expertise in IBM zEnterprise hardware and communication concepts.
- Hands-on experience with mainframe security protocols (AT-TLS, IPsec).
Education: Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech).
Service Line: Cloud & Infrastructure Services.
Preferred Background: * Deep exposure to Mainframe Security and Infrastructure.
- Proven ability to solve complex, low-level protocol issues in a high-pressure environment.
