Executive Director, Government & Public Sector | Investment Banking
Role Overview
As the Executive Director for Government & Public Sector, you are a senior strategic leader within First Abu Dhabi Bank’s (FAB) Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) division. Your primary mandate is to manage, protect, and aggressively grow a high-profile portfolio of government and public sector clients. You will serve as a bridge between the Bank’s overarching strategy and the tactical execution of complex investment banking deals. This role demands a sophisticated balance of high-level relationship management, rigorous credit quality oversight, and the ability to drive multi-product revenue growth through innovative financial solutions.
Key Accountabilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Business Development

Strategy Cascading: Translate the functional CIB strategy into actionable department business plans, ensuring alignment with MDs and other interfacing departments.

Wallet Share Optimization: Develop business plans aimed at increasing FAB’s share of the client’s wallet, maximizing relationship returns through strategic product placement.

Deal Origination: Lead the origination of new business opportunities across the full spectrum of banking products, from debt capital markets to structured finance.

Cross-Selling: Systematically identify and develop cross-selling opportunities to increase the cross-sell ratio among key government stakeholders.
2. Relationship & Transaction Management

Full-Cycle Execution: Lead the development and execution of Term Sheets, Information Memoranda, mandate letters, and complex financial models.

Deal Conclusion: Manage the “pitch-to-close” lifecycle, including lead negotiations and concluding high-value transactions.

Account Planning: Ensure comprehensive Account Plans are meticulously prepared and maintained for all key clients to track performance and opportunities.

Senior Liaison: Maintain close interaction with Product teams and enablement units to streamline deal execution and maximize business opportunities.
3. Risk, Credit & Compliance

Portfolio Quality: Maintain the credit quality of the relationship portfolio to levels set by Bank management, ensuring all credit reviews are submitted accurately and on time.

Risk Mitigation: Collaborate with risk and product teams to resolve credit, market, and operational risk aspects of complex transactions.

Regulatory Integrity: Oversee and enforce strict adherence to KYC and AML policies, ensuring 100% consistency with regulatory requirements for both existing clients and New-to-Bank (NTB) prospects.

Audit Readiness: Maintain a satisfactory audit trail on the portfolio, adhering to ORM, BCP, and Internal Audit requirements.
4. Financial & People Leadership

P&L Responsibility: Manage the profit and loss for the assigned portfolio, consistently achieving revenue targets within defined budget levels.

Talent Development: Act as a role model and mentor, contributing to talent development initiatives and ensuring the team has the skills required to meet business objectives.

Culture Driver: Foster a value-driven culture within the department, ensuring adherence to FAB’s organizational values and ethical standards.
About You: Skills & Qualifications

Experience:
-
10+ years of high-level experience in Investment Banking, with a focus on large-scale relationship management.

Proven track record of navigating the unique complexities of Government and Public Sector clients.

Technical Mastery:

Advanced skills in Financial Modelling, Data Analysis, and Credit Analysis.

Deep knowledge of global banking trends and FAB’s specific product ecosystem.

Proficiency in banking software systems and advanced Microsoft Office applications.

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related discipline.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA).
