Lead Specialist, Advanced Sensors II | Ma’aden
Role Overview
As the Lead Specialist for Advanced Sensors, you are the technical visionary behind Ma’aden’s mission to accelerate the discovery of base metals (Cu, Ni, Zn, Pb) and critical minerals. Your mandate is to convert complex sensor signals into precise, drill-ready targets with quantified uncertainty. By leading the selection and deployment of cutting-edge sensing technologies—from satellite hyperspectral mapping to downhole geophysics—you will bridge the gap between raw data and geological discovery, directly fueling the third pillar of Saudi Arabia’s economy.
Key Accountabilities
1. Strategic Roadmap & Technology Selection
-
Roadmap Ownership: Define and execute the advanced sensing roadmap, translating exploration priorities into technical work packages aligned with prioritized mineral systems.
-
Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and select innovative solutions across hyperspectral/thermal imaging, SAR/InSAR, LiDAR, magnetics, gravity, airborne/ground EM (AEM/TEM/MT), and downhole geophysics.
-
Adoption Criteria: Create rigorous decision criteria for technology adoption, balancing value, feasibility, HSE, data quality, scalability, and ESG commitments.
2. Technical Interpretation & Innovation
-
Integrated Products: Develop high-value interpretation products, including prospectivity maps, alteration/structure layers, and ranked target lists, defending them in high-level technical reviews.
-
R&D Leadership: Partner with universities, research centers, and startups to lead innovation pilots; transition successful proof-of-concepts into routine, scalable exploration workflows.
-
Data Fusion: Work closely with digital teams to ensure sensor data products meet metadata standards and integrate seamlessly with geology and geochemistry layers.
3. Mentorship & Field Validation
-
Staff Training: Mentor exploration staff on advanced sensing interpretation, QA/QC protocols, and practical field validation methods.
-
Quality Control: Manage contractor-led surveys, ensuring the highest standards of deliverable QA/QC from airborne or satellite platforms.
About You: Skills & Qualifications
-
Experience:
-
10+ years of relevant experience in mineral exploration technology, geophysics, or remote sensing.
-
Proven track record of generating targets that successfully progressed through stage gates to drill testing.
-
Strong background in base metals and critical minerals, specifically in varied terrains (arid or regolith environment experience is a plus).
-
-
Technical Mastery:
-
Remote Sensing: Expertise in hyperspectral mineral mapping, spectral libraries, and ground-truthing workflows.
-
Geospatial Analytics: Advanced proficiency in GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) and Python for reproducible analysis.
-
Geophysics: Strong understanding of survey design, processing/inversion concepts, and mineral-system interpretation.
-
-
Education:
-
MSc or PhD in Geophysics, Remote Sensing, Geology, Earth Systems, or Data Science (PhD highly preferred).
-
-
Core Competencies:
-
Analytical Thinking: Ability to synthesize multi-sensor layers into coherent targeting products.
