Desktop Support Engineer (Executive L1) | Wipro

Role Level: Executive L1

Experience: 2 – 4 Years

Location: Client Site / 24×7 Operations

Role Summary

The Desktop Support Engineer is the front-line technical resource responsible for maintaining a high-performance computing environment for end-users. As an Executive L1, your core purpose is the timely and accurate completion of assigned IT tasks. You will provide essential support through the troubleshooting, maintenance, and configuration of desktops, laptops, and peripherals, ensuring all incidents and service requests are resolved within defined SLA timelines to maintain operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support & OS Management

  • Incident Diagnostics: Provide day-to-day troubleshooting for OS-related issues across Windows XP, 7, and 8 environments.

  • Security & Compliance: Manually install antivirus definitions and security patches on systems where automated updates fail; identify and remove malware to protect the network.

  • Deployment: Perform OS builds using approved images and deployment tools like WDS or Ghost.

  • Hardware Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve hardware issues for multi-vendor systems, including Wipro, IBM, HP, and Dell.

2. Lifecycle & IMAC Operations

  • IMAC Services: Execute Install, Move, Add, and Change (IMAC) activities for pre-approved, low-impact hardware and software requests.

  • Peripheral Setup: Perform installation, configuration, and troubleshooting for printers, scanners, and email clients.

  • Project Support: Lead desktop and phone setups for ongoing office projects or new business initiatives.

3. Network & Infrastructure Administration

  • Directory Services: Maintain a working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policies, DNS, and DHCP to resolve user access issues.

  • Connectivity: Troubleshoot network infrastructure, including Ethernet cabling, port configurations, and IP addressing (TCP/IP).

  • Remote Services: Support Windows Terminal Server and basic server-side troubleshooting for end-user connectivity.

4. Operational Excellence & Communication

  • SLA Management: Analyze and resolve technical problems efficiently, ensuring all updates are captured in the ticket logging tool within agreed timelines.

  • VIP Engagement: Demonstrate strong client-facing communication skills, specifically when supporting VIP users and executive leadership.

  • Proactive Improvement: Reduce repetitive incidents through trend analysis and corrective actions.

  • Flexibility: Adapt to dynamic environments, including shift work and 24×7 operations as required by the project.


Expected Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Hands-on experience with Windows Client & Server OS.

    • Knowledge of imaging tools (WDS, Ghost, etc.).

    • Understanding of network hardware, software, and cabling.

  • Behavioral Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities under pressure.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills with a “customer-service” focus.

    • Effective time management and task prioritization.


Qualification & Experience

  • Education: Graduation in any discipline (with relevant IT exposure).

  • Experience: 2 – 4 years of hands-on experience in Desktop Support or End User Computing (EUC).

  • Certification: ITIL Certification is preferred but optional.
