Lead Specialist, Integrated Data, AI & Analytics Platform II | Ma’aden

Role Overview 

As the Lead Specialist for Data Engineering, you will be the primary architect of the data pipelines that power the third pillar of Saudi Arabia’s economy. This is a senior technical role focused on bridging the gap between Operational Technology (OT)—the sensors, SCADA, and historians at our remote mining sites—and Information Technology (IT). You will ensure that Ma’aden’s fully integrated mining value chain is supported by governed, high-performing, and scalable data solutions, providing the foundation for advanced AI/ML and enterprise analytics.

Key Accountabilities

1. OT–IT Data Integration & Pipeline Engineering

  • Unified Data Flows: Design and build ingestion and orchestration pipelines that unify data from disconnected remote mining sites, manufacturing systems, edge devices, and IT cloud platforms.

  • Industrial Data Expertise: Address specific OT challenges including protocol variability, high-latency connectivity, and the integration of SCADA and historian data.

  • Workflow Optimization: Implement scalable ELT/ETL workflows that support real-time operational use cases as well as long-term AI/ML modeling.

2. Architecture & Governance Implementation

  • Physical Engineering: Translate complex architectural models into robust physical implementations, ensuring every data layer is consistent with Ma’aden’s enterprise architecture.

  • Governance by Design: Embed metadata capture, lineage tracking, and automated quality checks directly into the data pipelines to support corporate cataloging and data governance.

  • Domain Partnership: Partner with business units to understand specific domain requirements, ensuring that delivered data products meet both analytical and operational needs.

3. Technical Leadership & Innovation

  • Execution Excellence: Deliver high-reliability engineering solutions and maintain technical standards across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Modern Lakehouse Patterns: Apply modern engineering techniques, such as data lakehouse patterns and virtualization, to optimize the enterprise data layer.

  • Mentorship: Provide senior technical guidance to junior specialists and engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

About You: Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional Experience:

    • 8+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering across modern cloud architectures.

    • Proven experience integrating OT systems (SCADA, DCS, historians) with IT sources like ERP Fusion.

    • Strong background in building data pipelines for mining, manufacturing, or heavy industrial sectors.

  • Technical Mastery:

    • Languages & Frameworks: Expert-level Python, SQL, and advanced ELT/ETL development (e.g., Azure Data Factory).

    • Data Architecture: Deep understanding of Delta/Parquet formats, Data Lakehouse patterns, and streaming/micro-batching architectures.

    • Infrastructure: Proficiency in Azure, containerization, DevOps (CI/CD), and Git-based workflows.

    • Specialized Data: Experience handling time-series, sensor, and historian data.

  • Education: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Information Systems.

    • Master’s degree preferred (Data Architecture, Software Engineering, or AI/Analytics).
