Senior Data Engineer | Dialog Axiata PLC

Role Overview Dialog Axiata PLC is seeking a high-caliber Senior Data Engineer to join our Group Analytics and AI division. In this role, you will be a cornerstone of our enterprise data strategy, responsible for building scalable data pipelines, ensuring rigorous data quality, and managing robust data management platforms. You will work at the intersection of Big Data, Cloud, and AI, delivering high-quality data assets that empower data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate is a technical specialist who thrives on solving complex data challenges and is passionate about staying at the forefront of cloud and data engineering technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Pipeline Management

  • ETL Operations: Manage and optimize complex ETL workflows on big data platforms, including AWS Athena, AWS S3, and Snowflake, ensuring high accuracy and strict SLA adherence.

  • Automation: Develop Airflow-based ETL configurations to automate third-party data quality (DQ) jobs and streamline data movement.

  • Cloud Integration: Build and deploy AWS Lambda functions to integrate with various APIs for automated data extraction and loading.

  • Advanced Scripting: Develop sophisticated stored procedures, data extraction pipelines, and performance-tuned transformations within Snowflake.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Quality Frameworks: Investigate data structures and business requirements to develop and implement SQL-based Data Quality Rules within platforms like Collibra.

  • Lineage & Root Cause: Manage and troubleshoot end-to-end Data Lineage, performing deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on any data discrepancies or pipeline failures.

  • Knowledge Management: Support and maintain Business Glossaries and Data Dictionaries, ensuring enterprise data remains discoverable and well-defined.

Analytics & Insights

  • Visual Analytics: Develop high-standard Tableau data sources and interactive dashboards that provide actionable business insights.

  • Technical Support: Act as the primary technical lead for the data management platform, providing troubleshooting support and training staff on operational best practices.

  • R&D Leadership: Engage in continuous Research and Development to align our data architecture with industry best practices and emerging AI/ML requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: BSc Degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field.

  • Experience: 2–4 years of proven experience in Database Management, ETL development, or Data Pipeline Engineering.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Languages: Proficiency in Python, Scala, or Java for data engineering.

    • SQL Mastery: Expert-level SQL scripting skills (PL/SQL, T-SQL).

    • Database Systems: Strong experience with RDBMS, Data Warehouses (Snowflake), NoSQL, and Big Data technologies.

    • Platform Knowledge: Hands-on experience with Linux shell scripting and system administration.

  • Certifications: Professional certifications in Cloud Platforms (AWS/GCP), Data Warehousing, BI Tools (Tableau), or Machine Learning are highly advantageous.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Deep understanding of data quality, metadata management, and data governance concepts.

    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with source owners and vendors.

    • Highly motivated “self-starter” capable of delivering complex projects with minimal supervision.
