Senior Group Accountant | Professional Services
Role Overview
Charterhouse is supporting a prominent professional services group in their search for a Senior Group Accountant. Based within the centralized regional finance department and reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will take full ownership of the financial accounting function. This role is a blend of technical compliance and operational finance, requiring a high-caliber professional capable of ensuring regulatory alignment while driving efficiency across transactional workstreams and working capital management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting & Regulatory Compliance

Statutory Reporting: Take full ownership of the regional business’s financial accounting, ensuring all statements are prepared and recorded in strict alignment with regional regulatory requirements.

Tax Management: Prepare, oversee, and file all VAT returns on a quarterly basis, ensuring compliance with local tax laws.

Audit Oversight: Act as the primary liaison for both internal and external audit partners, managing the audit lifecycle and ensuring group-level compliance.
2. Transactional & Ledger Management

Full-Cycle Accounting: Manage and oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions to maintain healthy vendor and client relationships.

General Ledger: Responsible for general ledger maintenance and the integrity of the reconciliation process to ensure an accurate monthly close.

Systems Management: Oversee and manage internal booking and accounting systems, ensuring data accuracy for the preparation of financial accounts.
3. Working Capital & MIS Reporting

Cash Flow Optimization: Monitor and report on cash flow positions, supporting collections and managing work-in-progress (WIP) reports to maximize liquidity.

Business Partnering: Utilize MIS reporting and working capital analysis to provide strategic insights to senior leadership and group-level stakeholders.

Advanced Analysis: Leverage high-level Excel proficiency to conduct deep-dive financial analysis and performance tracking.
About You: Skills & Competencies

Technical Accuracy: A rigorous approach to financial reporting with a deep understanding of regional tax and regulatory frameworks.

Operational Agility: Comfortable in a “hands-on” role that requires shifting between high-level compliance and daily transactional management.

Commercial Acumen: Ability to translate complex accounting data into meaningful MIS reports that support business partnering.

System Savvy: Highly proficient in accounting software and advanced Excel (modeling, macros, and data analysis).
Qualifications & Experience

Professional Qualification: Must be a professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CPA).

Background: Ideally from a Big Four Audit background with subsequent experience in a professional services environment.

Operational Track Record: Proven experience in an operational finance role, specifically managing GL, VAT, and working capital.

Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the confidence to manage relationships with auditors and regional controllers.
