Role Overview

Charterhouse is partnering with a global leader in the RegTech space as they expand their presence in the UAE. Our client operates a sophisticated SaaS platform that automates regulatory reporting and compliance for world-class financial institutions. As a Senior Kotlin / Java Developer, you will be a key architect of high-throughput, scalable services within a modern microservices environment. This role is designed for a developer who excels at building resilient, observable systems that handle the rigorous data demands of the global financial regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Backend Engineering & Modernization

Scalable Solutions: Design and implement high-performance, service-oriented backend solutions using Kotlin and Java, ensuring they meet strict reliability and availability benchmarks.
Architecture Evolution: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to modernize existing architectures, developing new features that are natively resilient and observable.
Framework Mastery: Leverage Spring Boot, Spring, and Micronaut to deliver robust, high-throughput backend functionality.

2. Distributed Systems & Data Flow

Event-Driven Architecture: Utilize Apache Kafka, Apache Camel, and Apache Artemis JMS to ensure seamless, real-time data flows across distributed services.
Database Management: Integrate with and optimize both relational and non-relational databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch.
API & Integration: Maintain and develop high-acuity REST and legacy SOAP interfaces to support a diverse ecosystem of financial institution clients.

3. DevOps & Engineering Excellence

CI/CD & Deployment: Build and maintain automated pipelines using GitLab, enabling rapid, safe, and repeatable deployments to Kubernetes clusters.
Observability: Utilize the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) to ensure the platform remains highly observable and performant.
Modern Tooling: Work within a high-efficiency environment using JetBrains IntelliJ (with AI assistance), Lens, Rancher, and Postman.

About You: Skills & Competencies

Technical Polyglot: Deep expertise in Java with a strong transition into Kotlin for modern service development.
Microservices Advocate: A profound understanding of distributed systems, event-driven patterns, and the challenges of high-throughput data processing.
Quality Mindset: Commitment to writing clean, maintainable code and building automated tests that ensure platform stability.
Collaborative Engineer: Ability to work effectively within a fast-moving, cross-functional team, contributing to both architectural decisions and hands-on coding.

Qualifications & Experience

Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years in backend development primarily focused on Java and Kotlin.
Framework Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot or Micronaut.
Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, and container orchestration (Rancher/Lens).
Data Expertise: Proven experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and messaging brokers (Kafka/Artemis).
RegTech/FinTech Interest: While not mandatory, experience in highly regulated sectors or financial technology will be considered a significant advantage.
