Senior Drainage Engineer (Design) | Parsons | Dubai, UAE

Role Overview Parsons is seeking an amazingly talented Senior Drainage Engineer to join our technical design team in Dubai. In this role, you will take on a wide variety of complex engineering assignments, applying advanced hydraulic and hydrologic modeling techniques to shape the civil and transport infrastructure of the region. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of stormwater management systems—from initial planning and complex 1D/2D modeling to obtaining final design approvals from authorities like the Dubai Municipality. As a senior member of the team, you will drive a digital-first delivery culture, mentoring junior engineers while providing innovative, sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS) for a challenging desert environment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Design & Hydraulic Modeling

  • Infrastructure Design: Lead the drainage design for major civil and transport projects, including piped networks, transverse drainage structures, and stormwater quality systems.

  • Advanced Modeling: Conduct and review detailed hydrological and hydraulic analysis using industry-standard software. Perform 1D/2D flood analysis and complex network layout designs.

  • Systems Engineering: Design hydraulic systems tailored to specific site requirements, applying deep knowledge of the physical and biological processes of stormwater management.

  • Innovation & Value Engineering: Implement cutting-edge technology and CAE/CAD applications to provide cost-effective and sustainable drainage solutions.

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Project Management: Take high-level responsibility for project delivery, ensuring all results are achieved within strict timelines.

  • Client & Authority Relations: Build strong relationships with clients and lead the process of obtaining design approvals from local service authorities.

  • Digital Collaboration: Coordinate closely with CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling teams to ensure integrated and accurate project delivery.

  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, supervision, and career mentoring to intermediate and junior engineers.

Documentation & Quality Control

  • Technical Writing: Independently prepare comprehensive drainage design reports, hydrologic calculations, and design reviews.

  • Drawing Production: Oversee and produce high-quality plan and profile drawings, ensuring they meet all technical and aesthetic standards.

  • Calculation Verification: Utilize advanced mathematics to create and verify calculation sheets, ensuring all designs are appropriate and accurate.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Hydrology, or Water Engineering.

    • A Master’s Degree in Water Engineering or Hydrology is considered a significant advantage.

  • Experience: * Minimum of 12 years in water engineering, specifically in stormwater drainage design for transport and civil projects.

    • Minimum of 6 years of essential UAE/GCC experience, with thorough familiarity with Dubai Municipality design standards.

  • Software Proficiency:

    • Compulsory: Expertise in InfoWorks ICM (1D/2D).

    • Modeling: Proficiency in Bentley StormCAD, SewerGEMS, InfoDrainage, SWMM, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS.

    • Design Tools: Advanced command of GIS and CAD tools including ArcMap, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation.

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and Water Sensitive Design.

    • Ability to independently design complex storm/groundwater networks and pump station hydraulic models.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with a collegiate, team-player attitude.

    • Professionalism: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or equivalent) is highly desirable.

    • Multi-disciplinary Focus: Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
