Secondary Alternative Pathways Teacher – GEMS World Academy-Dubai

Starting August 2026

GEMS World Academy-Dubai (GWA) is a prestigious IB World School renowned for its inclusive vision and commitment to academic excellence. We develop inquiring, reflective, and caring learners through the rigor of the PYP, MYP, DP, and CP programs. Our Inclusion department is a cornerstone of our success, transformed by a forward-thinking approach to data and a deep-seated care for student well-being.

We are seeking an innovative Secondary Alternative Pathways Teacher to lead our specialized curriculum offerings and ensure that every student, regardless of their starting point, can maximize their potential and choose a successful path.

The Role: Alternative Pathways Specialist

As a key member of the Inclusion team, you will bridge the gap between mainstream academic rigor and specialized vocational or life-skills pathways. Your role is to design and deliver a curriculum that empowers students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to achieve recognized certifications while fostering independence and character.

Core Responsibilities

Curriculum Design & Leadership

  • ASDAN Coordination: Lead the delivery, tasks, and assignments for ASDAN programs. Coordinate closely with Dubai and International ASDAN coordinators to ensure effective integration and moderation.

  • Internal Moderation: Oversee the internal moderation of ASDAN student files to ensure compliance for certification.

  • Strategic Development: Liaise with the Head of Inclusion (HOI) on curriculum development, timetabling, and future growth strategies for the Alternative Pathway.

Collaboration & Modification

  • Mainstream Integration: Partner with specialist subject teachers to modify and adapt mainstream curricula, ensuring accessibility for students on alternative paths.

  • Resource Management: Collaborate with Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Case Managers on the design and management of bespoke learning resources.

  • Reporting & Tracking: Oversee and update the IASEND assessment tracker; collaborate with the HOI to refine reporting systems specifically for Alternative Pathways.

Professional Development & Mentorship

  • Staff Training: Lead professional development sessions for 1:1 Learning Support Assistants, specifically focusing on ASDAN frameworks and SEN best practices.

  • Global Benchmarking: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and international developments in the ASDAN curriculum and SEN pedagogy.

Skills & Requirements

Educational Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor of Education, or an initial degree plus a teaching qualification (PGCE/PGDE).

  • Specialization: A specific specialism or advanced qualification in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Inclusion is highly preferred.

  • Certification: Full-time professional certification as an Alternative Pathways or SEN teacher.

Experience & Attributes

  • Track Record: A minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience working with SEN students, with at least 5 years of overall teaching or administration experience preferred.

  • Curriculum Knowledge: While experience in the IB Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP/CP) programs is an advantage, outstanding teachers from any curriculum background are encouraged to apply.

  • Mindset: A genuine passion for working in a non-selective, culturally diverse community. Alignment with the IB Learner Profile—specifically being caring, reflective, and principled—is essential.

  • Soft Skills: Strong public relations skills, a collaborative demeanor, and a robust work ethic.

Your Package & Benefits

Successful candidates will receive an exceptional remuneration package, including:

  • Competitive tax-free salary and furnished accommodation.

  • Premium medical and life insurance, plus coverage for a working permit and residence visa.

  • Annual flight allowance and tuition fee concessions for dependents.

  • Professional Growth: Extensive CPD programs, including official IBO training.

  • Wellbeing: Access to world-class sports facilities, termly fitness sessions, and a structured staff social calendar.
