Lead Engineer – Access Network Operations

We are seeking a visionary Lead Engineer to join our Access Network Operations team. In this strategic role, you will be responsible for formulating comprehensive maintenance strategies to ensure the peak performance of our entire Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio. You will lead network rollouts and drive service excellence by overseeing technical analysis, high-level deployments, and the evolution of our radio platforms.

Your mission is to maximize network availability through optimized configurations, expert resource development, and the implementation of best-in-class automated processes. You will spearhead the adoption of future technologies while ensuring all operations align with Minimum Baseline Security Standards (MBSS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Incident & Service Management: Lead the resolution of complex service incidents across 2G, 4G, 5G, Fixed Broadband (FBB), P2P, and P2MP systems, ensuring strict SLA compliance.

  • Strategic Analysis: Evaluate traffic patterns, EMS alarms, and fault trends to identify systemic limitations and drive continuous service improvements.

  • Solution Integration: Spearhead the implementation of new technical solutions, ensuring seamless integration with existing monitoring systems and maintenance protocols.

  • Operational Readiness: Define provisioning strategies for new features and develop rigorous testing procedures to ensure network modifications do not disrupt existing services.

  • Knowledge Leadership: Maintain an advanced knowledge repository and deliver high-impact training programs to elevate the technical competency of the wider operations staff.

  • Data & Automation: Develop sophisticated algorithms and data analysis methodologies to transform raw network data into actionable business intelligence and performance reports.

Entry Requirements

  • Education: B.Sc. Eng. (Hons) degree in Engineering (IESL accredited) or equivalent.

  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of telecommunication systems (Mobile/FBB) and server architectures.

  • Technical Versatility: Proficiency in IP networking, programming, data analytics, and the application of AI in network environments.

  • Experience: A minimum of 4–7 years of post-qualification experience in access network operations or a related field.

  • Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional technical teams.

Strategic Tips for this Application:

  • Highlight the “5G” and “AI” Angle: Since the JD specifically mentions 5G and AI/Data Analytics, emphasize any experience you have with network automation or using Python/SQL to analyze network traffic.

  • Focus on SLA & KPI Ownership: As a Lead Engineer, you aren’t just fixing faults; you are managing the process. Be ready to discuss how you’ve improved “Mean Time to Repair” (MTTR) or “Network Availability” in previous roles.

  • The “IESL” Factor: In the Sri Lankan engineering context, being a Chartered Engineer or having an IESL-accredited degree is a major gatekeeper. Ensure this is prominently displayed at the top of your CV.

  • Security Mindset: Mentioning your familiarity with MBSS or general cybersecurity frameworks within telecom infrastructure will set you apart from purely “hardware-focused” candidates.
