Role Overview 

On behalf of a leading financial institution, Charterhouse is seeking a seasoned Head of Cards to spearhead the end-to-end cards business. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for defining product strategy, accelerating portfolio growth, and managing the total P&L. You will oversee the complete cards technology ecosystem, driving innovation in digital payments while ensuring a world-class customer experience. From product inception to operational excellence, you will lead the bank’s efforts to dominate the cards and payments landscape.


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Growth

  • Strategy Execution: Develop and implement a robust Cards strategy focused on aggressive portfolio acquisition, activation, and year-on-year spend growth.

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Lead the full lifecycle of card propositions, including rewards programs, premium co-branding partnerships, and flexible installment solutions.

  • Innovation & Digital Payments: Drive the adoption of digital payment innovations, including tokenization, mobile wallets, and emerging fintech integrations.

2. Financial & Operational Excellence

  • P&L Management: Take full ownership of the cards P&L, implementing strategies to maximize profitability while maintaining rigorous cost optimization.

  • Network & Systems Oversight: Manage critical card management systems (CMS) and ensure seamless integration with global payment networks such as Visa and Mastercard.

  • Risk & Governance: Oversee fraud and dispute management frameworks, ensuring strict compliance with risk protocols and operational performance standards.

3. Stakeholder & Team Management

  • Leadership: Lead and develop high-performing, cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous professional development.

  • Vendor Partnerships: Manage key relationships with external vendors and technology partners to ensure the delivery of complex product initiatives.

  • Internal Synergy: Act as a primary liaison between senior leadership, IT, and compliance to align card initiatives with broader organizational goals.


About You: Skills & Competencies

  • Commercial Acumen: A deep understanding of P&L drivers and the ability to convert market trends into profitable card products.

  • Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of card schemes, CMS architecture, and the digital payments ecosystem.

  • Leadership Prowess: Proven ability to lead large-scale transformations and deliver complex technology and product roadmaps.

  • Customer-Centric Mindset: A focus on enhancing the end-user journey through intuitive design and innovative payment features.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: A Degree in Business, Finance, IT, or a related field; an MBA is highly preferred.

  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 15+ years of experience in cards and payments within a banking or financial institution.

  • Track Record: Proven experience in a senior leadership role with a history of delivering complex product and technology initiatives.

  • Market Knowledge: Strong familiarity with regional and international payment regulations and digital wallet trends.
