Role Overview

Charterhouse is partnering with a prestigious international law firm to appoint a TMT Associate to its market-leading practice in Riyadh. This role sits at the heart of the Middle East’s digital transformation, offering the opportunity to advise global innovators and regional disruptors on high-stakes technology, outsourcing, and data-driven mandates. You will navigate the complexities of emerging tech within highly regulated sectors—such as Financial Services and Healthcare—balancing rapid innovation with a robust regional regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technology & Digital Transactions

Core Advisory: Advise on a full spectrum of technology matters, including SaaS, complex licensing, outsourcing, and large-scale digital transformation projects.
Agreement Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate high-value ICT, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure agreements, ensuring they align with both global standards and local commercial objectives.
Innovation Support: Provide strategic counsel on emerging technologies, including AI, Fintech, Healthtech, and Cloud computing, helping clients manage the risks of the “new.”

2. Data Governance & Cybersecurity

Compliance Frameworks: Support multinational and regional clients on data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity compliance.
Cross-Border Transfers: Lead the implementation of regional data transfer frameworks, navigating the evolving privacy laws in the Middle East.
Risk Management: Offer practical, risk-based advice to clients in regulated industries to ensure compliance without stifling technological growth.

3. Strategic Collaboration & Thought Leadership

Cross-Disciplinary Synergy: Collaborate with Corporate, Regulatory, and Dispute Resolution teams on integrated, cross-border projects.
Knowledge Management: Contribute to client training, internal “know-how” initiatives, and thought leadership pieces regarding the shifting digital regulatory environment.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to C-suite and legal counsel of multinational corporations, providing solutions-oriented legal guidance.

About You: Skills & Competencies

Commercial Acumen: A solutions-oriented approach that translates complex legal regulations into practical business strategies.
Technical Drafting: Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle intricate, multi-layered ICT contracts.
Emerging Tech Passion: A genuine interest in the evolving digital landscape and the regulatory challenges posed by AI and decentralized technologies.
Communication: Confidence in managing high-profile client relationships and presenting to diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

Professional Experience: 3–7 years PQE with a focus on technology, commercial, and data protection law, ideally gained at a top-tier international firm.
Domain Expertise: Proven track record in tech procurement, outsourcing, and digital transformation mandates.
Jurisdiction: A Common Law qualification (e.g., England & Wales) is preferred.
Regional Context: Prior experience in the Middle East or a strong motivation to relocate to Riyadh is essential.
Language: While not essential, proficiency in Arabic is considered a distinct advantage.
